Pakistan produced one of the greatest comebacks in ODI history as they beat South Africa by 1 wicket in the second game of the ODI series at the Sheik Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
Pakistanwon by 1 wicket (with 1 ball remaining)
South Africa: 286/8 (Ingram 100, Amla 65, Duminy 54)
Pakistan: 289/9 (Razzaq 109*, Afridi 49)
Abdul Razzaq played on the greatest ODI innings ever as he single handledly got Pakistan to what seemed an impossible victory target.
SOUTH AFRICAN INNINGS
Without Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis, Robin Peterson was given the opportunity to open the innings and failed to capitalise on his chance.
Colin Ingram was promoted to 3 and scored his second ODI hundred as he built a good partnership with Hashim Amla, before Amla was LBW to Afridi.
When AB de Villiers was out close to 200, South Africa were looking at a score of 300+.
However the powerplay was not a success, Dave Miller and Albie Morkel failing to deliver, and a fluent half-century from JP Duminy, South Africa had under delivered in getting to 286/8.
PAKISTAN INNINGS
Once again early wickes put Pakistan on the back foot. This time it was Charl Langeveldt grabbing the wickets, whilst Tsotsobe bowled beautifully without any luck.
Shahid Afridi looked good, scoring quickly as he often does, but when he left with Pakistan on 136/5, with Pakistan not even half-way to their total, the game looked over.
No one told Abdul Razzaq however and he saw Pakistan home despite the enormous obstacles.
Razzaq scored 109 off just 72 delivers, including 10 a whopping 10 sixes!
He also scored 65 of the last 63 runs, that is unheard of!
Once again the South African bowling at the death was not good enough. It’s been a problem for years, and defending a good target with plenty of wickets down, it shouldn’t get much easier than that.
IT’S NOW GAME ON
The series is now level at 1-1, and we move onto Dubai for the next 3 matches to see who can win the series.
